Entry Limit
To ensure the best possible participant experience, the race field is limited to 1,500.
The Course
The La Jolla Shores 5K is a scenic, hilly, point-to-point course that begins on La Jolla Shores Drive near the Scripps Pier and runs through La Jolla Shores and along North Torrey Pines Road, Prospect Avenue and Coast Boulevard before finishing at the La Jolla Cove in the same location as the La Jolla Half Marathon finish. The course will be clearly marked with traffic cones and course guides and except when otherwise directed, run as close to the right hand curb as possible. The course will close to 5K runners and walkers one hour after race start (20-minute-mile pace). Click here for a map of the course.
Bib Number and T-Shirt Pickup
You are encouraged to pick up your bib number and T-shirt at the La Jolla Half Marathon expo. Be prepared to show your photo ID to claim your bib number. You may designate a person to pick up your bib number but they must present a copy of your picture ID – no exceptions. If you’re unable to attend the expo and need to pick up your bib number on race day you may pick it up from the start line on race day between 6:30 a.m. and 7:15 a.m. T-shirt pickup on race day will be located at the finish line in La Jolla Cove. *The 2014 expo location and details are TBD.
Timing and Race Results
New this year, we'll be using ChronoTrack's B-tag timing to score our event. Official results and age group awards will be based on your chip time (net time on the course). Course record cash awards will be based on gun time. All runners must attach the timing device as instructed or they will not be timed and ineligible for any award. Results will be posted in the finish line area and also after the race at www.lajollahalfmarathon.com.
Race Day Parking
Race day parking is limited at the start of the 5K. Delays getting in are guaranteed. Be sure to give yourself an extra thirty to forty-five minutes travel time before the race. We also strongly suggest you carpool if possible. You may also park at the La Jolla Cove and take a shuttle from the Cove to the start line. Shuttle service begins at 6:30 a.m. and the last shuttle leaves the Cove promptly at 7 a.m.
Race Day Gear Check
You may check your gear on race morning at both the half marathon and 5K start lines at the Gear Check area. NEW THIS YEAR: All checked gear must fit into one 11” x 16” bag which will be supplied by the race. You may not check any backpacks or duffle bags. Don’t pack valuables and keep in mind the race organizers are not responsible for lost or stolen items. Bags may be claimed after your race from the Gear Pickup tent at the finish line. Do not discard gear at the start line. All items left at the start line, on the course or not claimed on race day from the Gear Pickup tent will be donated to local shelters. Any bags left unattended will be removed by security.
