Timing and Results

Chip timing will be used for both races. Official results and age group awards will be based on your Chip Time (net time on the course). Course record cash awards will be based on Gun Time as in the past. All runners must attach the Chip as instructed or they will not be timed and ineligible for any award. Results will be posted adjacent the Finish Line and at RunLaJolla.com after the race.

Race Number and Timing Chip
Inside your Race Packet you should find a Race Number (Bib) and Timing Chip. Examine the label on your Timing Chip for accuracy. If you find any discrepancies, please contact a Race Official immediately. Prior to the race start, attach the Bib to the FRONT of your shirt and secure the Timing Chip as instructed. Runners crossing the start line or entering the finish area without a Timing Chip will be disqualified from receiving any award.

Carbo Dinner
All participants are invited to a pre-race Carbo Dinner adjacent the Runner's Expo on Saturday night (April 24) at the La Jolla Recreation Center, 615 Prospect Street , between 5:00 pm and 7:00 pm. Your Bib is required for admission. Guest tickets may be purchased at the door for $10.00.

The Start

Shuttles to the Start: The first bus will depart La Jolla Cove at 5:00am.  THE LAST BUS WILL DEPART AT 6:00am.  We will "mark" the last runner in line at 5:30am.  Runners who enter the bus line after the "marked" runner will not be guaranteed LJHM transportation to Del Mar and will need to find alternate transportation at their own expense.  YOU MUST BE IN LINE BEFORE 5:30am. YOUR RACE BIB OR VIP BUS TICKET IS REQUIRED TO BOARD THE BUS. Entry receipts or any other "proof of entry" can not be accepted by transportation security.

Warm Up Clothing: Warm-ups worn to the start may be deposited with a Clothing Control Volunteer for return transportation to the finish area. Your Bib is your claim ticket. Do not place money or valuables in your bag, as we can not be responsible for any loss.

Race Start: Due to the large field, all runners should be in the start area by 7:00 am. Staging and the pre-race meeting will begin at 7:10 am.  There will be two start waves.  Runners with an anticipated 8 minute per mile pace or higher should enter the second wave corral for a more enjoyable run.  Prior to the start, please attach your Bib securely to the FRONT of your shirt and the Timing Chip to your shoe. Runners without visible Race Bibs will be removed from the course. Remember, NO CHIP - NO TIME!

STROLLERS, iPODS / MP3 PLAYERS WITH "OVER THE EAR" HEADPHONES, PETS AND BICYCLES ARE PROHIBITED ON THE HALF MARATHON COURSE.

The Course
Several bicyclists will lead runners and split times will be announced at each mile marker. The course is clearly marked with traffic cones, chalked arrows and course guides at each questionable turn. Except when otherwise directed by a course guide or police officer, please run as close to the right hand curb as possible. Running outside the cones is a genuine personal safety hazard and could jeopardize the future of this race. You are encouraged to shout at people who are not within the cones. This course has several major hills (up and down) and some areas where footing may be difficult. Runners should use extreme caution in these areas. Significant efforts have been made to reduce any danger to an absolute minimum, however, since the course runs along many streets which carry normal traffic, runners must take more than casual precautions to ensure their safety. If you become sick or injured, stay along the course, a sag wagon will follow the last runner. Aid stations are located at strategic points along the course. Water and a sport drink will be available at each station. Note: The course will open to normal traffic progressively from the start based on an 14 min / mile pace.

The Finish
Race Time clocks will be placed adjacent the finish line and will display your unofficial Gun Time. In addition, your (average) course Pace will be displayed to your right as you cross the finish line. Results will be posted in the Results Tent as available and updated continually.

After the Race

Shuttles: Post Race Shuttles begin departing the Cove at 9:30am. Buses will run back to the Half Marathon start until 12:00pm.

Post Race Celebration : After the race, runners will be greeted by an eclectic display of food and drink including a Beer Garden for participants over 21.  At 10:00am the awards celebration and opportunity race number drawing will begin. Over $5000 in prizes will be awarded to those in attendance.  Your Bib is your number for the prize drawings held during the awards ceremonies. You must be present to win. All prizes will be awarded. Note: Picture identification is required for admission to the beer garden.
